Nothing is impossible with the right attitude

“I now have a purpose each day, I am changing my lifestyle and am so much healthier physically and mentally.”

Adrian was referred to the OCTEC Career Transition Assistance (CTA) program through his Job active in April 2021.

Adrian was unaware of how this course could change his life in such a short time. 58 years old and unemployed since 2016, Adrian moved from the Central Coast NSW back to the Central West region to become a carer for this sick father.

Adrian’s previous employment experience was in the hospitality and transport industries, yet he was struggling gaining employment again. That was until he attended the OCTEC CTA program held at Croagh Patrick Training facility in Orange.

At the commencement of the course, Adrian had low digital literacy skills along with low self-confidence. During the 8 weeks, he committed to the course attending every session with a positive attitude and challenging himself with every task. Together with the OCTEC CTA facilitators Adrian significantly increased his digital literacy knowledge and skills, updated his resume, developed job seeking skills via online platforms and undertook mock interviews.

With the encouragement of the OCTEC CTA team Adrian applied for a position with a transport company in Orange. He attended an interview and was successful in gaining employment.

Adrian said “the mock interviews were so great, as we had practiced all the questions in class multiple times so when the employer asked questions during the interview I was not nervous and I knew how to answer each question.”

Adrian says gaining employment has changed his life. “I now have a purpose each day, I am changing my lifestyle and am so much healthier physically and mentally.”

Adrian says the course was a “great experience and he would encourage everyone to do the Career Transition Assistance Program with OCTEC.”
