With barriers relating to Asperger’s and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), OCTEC supported Braydon through different roles over many years. It was difficult to find a workplace environment to suit his needs.
The quiet and reserved 26-year-old first came to OCTEC DES Inverell NSW back in 2019, where he met with consultant Jade. As she talked with him, she discovered he wanted to get into work and apply his ability to learn quickly. He enjoyed learning new things and was proficient with anything IT and mechanical.
They worked through his previous employment background, refining Braydon’s résumé and they started to find unfortunately suitable jobs to apply for. They went through job interview preparation as well.
Braydon had fallouts from a few different jobs. Jade and Braydon worked through these together, helping him to take what he learnt and use it to his benefit. The COVID-19 pandemic didn’t help either. Braydon continued to apply for positions and follow up on referrals. OCTEC supported him to successfully complete a Certificate III in Logistics.
A Split Belt Assistant position came up with local manufacturer Andromeda Industries. Jade spent time with Annette from Andromeda, explaining Braydon’s situation and offering OCTEC Biz Support to ensure he was able to fit into his new role. Braydon was employed in late 2023.
Jade and Annette were confident that he had found his fit with Andromeda.
Through post-placement support, Jade was able to offer OCTEC assistance to Braydon when he required a forklift ticket. She was always available to assist the employer to explain tasks to Braydon. He was happy to really understand exactly what was being asked of him.
Annette described Braydon as a perfect fit for their workplace. She said the team all value his contribution as a funny and social individual, adding that he’s popular and someone who others like working with.
