Guardian sponsorship for an event bringing attention to deathly impact of domestic violence

Tragically, Kristy’s life was cut short in June 2023 when she fell victim to domestic violence at the hands of her ex-husband.

In her honour, the event celebrated Kristy’s life in a format that had given her so much joy, whilst raising awareness about the critical issue of domestic violence, and rallying the community for positive change.

The event involved more than 12 hours of softball, with everyone from complete novices up to current Australian players taking the pitch. Over $23,000 was raised in donations alone. OCTEC staff raised over $1,000 on top of our guardian sponsorship. All money raised was split 50/50 between Kristy’s three girls and the running of Napcan’s ‘Love Bites’ domestic violence education program.

OCTEC received a plaque in acknowledge the event sponsorship. Orange Softball Association Sponsorship & Fundraising Coordinator Caz Bevan with OCTEC Chair Jeff Whitton, Home Base organiser Ellen Sharp and OCTEC CEO Andrew McDougall.

Kristy’s playing number was officially retired in a commemoration ceremony before her former Masters team took to the field for a showcase match with Australia’s finest softball talent on display.

The event extended beyond the realm of sport, with members of the community touched by family and domestic violence able to seek guidance and assistance in a safe and empathetic environment.

An OCTEC team of 16 took the field and we look forward to taking part again next year.
