Starting with OCTEC Transition to Work in Shellharbour and meeting with Career Consultant Storm truly transformed Cameron’s life. He had left school in Year 11 and wanted to pursue further studies since he didn’t have his HSC.
Having never worked or gained any work experience, he felt at a loss. However, Storm and OCTEC showed him an alternate path to gain employment.
Storm provided the information and assistance Cameron needed to move forward with his goals. She arranged for him to complete pre-employment training, both with OCTEC and another provider.
Through this, Cameron gained valuable knowledge about the workforce and started to learn more about himself. He also began exploring the hospitality industry, which seemed like a good fit for his personality.
Storm then helped Cameron enroll in a Certificate III in Hospitality course. OCTEC supported him with transport costs and driving lessons, helped obtain his White Card, and assisted with his studies.
As part of the Certificate III in Hospitality, Cameron gained work experience at Kiama Leagues Club and completed the work placement component of his course at a beachfront café in Warilla. This placement led to a job offer at the same café, where he has become a valued team member.
“In less than 12 months, I’ve gone from a person with no work experience at all to being happily employed.”
CAMERON
With newfound confidence and skills, Cameron is now embracing his future with optimism. He is working towards building a fulfilling career in hospitality.
