Frustrated to fulfilled for Tanya

Tanya’s anxiety and PTSD kept her from making any movements towards a more positive and independent life, which she’s just now living, happily employed.

After visiting OCTEC Inclusive Employment Australia in Balranald and meeting with OCTEC Career Consultant Allison, Tanya was on the start of a journey to chase away the black dog and turn things around.

It wasn’t an overnight change. Allison was patient, regularly communicating with Tanya in regards to potential positions in the local area. She also mentored Tanya between appointments.

“It has been over two years since I have worked and my anxiety worsened over this time. I would make excuses to Allison as to why I could not work.”

— Tanya

Tanya went two years without working due to her mental fragility. But once she found the right position, she was ready have a go at getting back into the workforce.

She had a strong background in aged care, and was naturally caring and friendly. This experience gave her many soft skills that complimented many personality traits that made her a good fit working in guest services and reception at Balranald Motor Inn.

OCTEC Consultant Allison organised the interview with the employer, and then also attended to support Tanya on the day.

“Tanya’s employer and the staff at Balranald Motor Inn have made her very welcome and her anxiety has greatly improved over the past few weeks,” Allison said.

OCTEC assisted the employer with a wage subsidy and assisted Tanya with work clothing.
