Dome’s inspiring journey back to work

Tanatsak, also known as Dome, is a strong-willed and energetic individual.

Dome had been eager to return to the workforce after a long hiatus since 2015. However, ongoing joint pain from rheumatoid arthritis made him uncertain about his ability to find suitable employment. Seeking guidance, Dome reached out to OCTEC through Facebook.

Joshua, from the Surry Hills office, quickly connected with Dome to assist him in navigating his job search. Dome was excited to regain his independence but was apprehensive, having previously faced challenges reporting his income to Centrelink, which resulted in a debt. Joshua reassured him, outlining a plan to highlight Dome’s strengths, update his resume, address any barriers, and identify job opportunities that aligned with his interests.

While reviewing Dome’s resume, Joshua discovered that his RSA and RCG qualifications were outdated. Given Dome’s prior experience in these areas, he was keen to renew them. OCTEC sponsored his enrollment in the necessary courses, which Dome successfully completed.

With a polished resume and a list of potential jobs, they began applying. Although Dome faced some initial rejections, his persistence paid off. He secured interviews and was outfitted with new business attire for the meetings. Eventually, Dome landed a position as a brand ambassador for Heinemann Australia at Sydney International Airport, where his qualifications allowed him to manage alcohol tastings.

Recognising the challenges posed by his arthritis, OCTEC provided support by purchasing new orthotics, significantly easing his discomfort. Joshua also advised Dome to consult his GP and chiropractor for additional assistance. Dome embraced this advice, persevered through the adjustments of his new role, and is now thriving in his full-time position, serving as an inspiration to all around him.
